For well over 100 years, the parishioners at Sacred Heart Sandringham have built and enhanced their church, school, presbytery and other buildings.

Eucharistic vessels, stained-glass, stoneware, liturgical books, altar furniture, building spaces, paintings, sculptures and other items have been donated or procured over the decades.

The second parish church was built in 1974 conserving and using many of the features of the earlier church. It was renovated in 2010 and many artworks in the modern idiom have been installed to create a church that is our sacred site, one that is elegant, graceful and inviting and that reinforces the reality of the triumph of the Cross and the dwelling of God within us all for eternity.

Good artworks and design matter because they crystalise our thoughts, communicate our beliefs, stimulate ideas for contemplation and create prayerful spaces.

Art & Architecture Booklet

In 2020, Fr Frank O’Loughlin and a group of parishioners prepared a booklet of the art, architecture and artists of the important spaces and artworks of Sacred Heart Sandringham and of the intent of those works.

Professionally printed copies of the Art & Architecture booklet in high resolution colour on art-quality paper are available by contacting the Sacred Heart Parish office.

For each copy obtained, you are invited to make a donation (say $10 if possible) which will go to the Sacred Heart Social Justice Group to fund its works with Timor Leste, Indigenous and other communities.

Digital versions of the booklet are available in formats suitable for either viewing on your device or printing at home. Click on an icon below to download.
